This year’s BET Awards were dedicated entirely to the recently fallen pop-icon, Michael Jackson. The BET (Black Entertainment Television) awards honor the achievements of African Americans in various areas of entertainment including acting, music and sports. Jaime Foxx hosted the 2009 ceremony, and performed Jackson’s Moonwalk dance. The host wasn’t the only celebrity to make adjustments in light of Jackson’s death. According to CBC, the TV program was extended a half-hour due to tributes. Keri Hilson, Monica, Drake, Keyshia Cole, Fabolous, Ne-Yo, Maxwell, Soulja Boy, Mary Mary, Jay Z and Beyonce gave performances and award-winners were as follows:

Best Male R&B Artist: Ne-Yo
Best Female R&B Artist: Beyonce
Best Group: Day 26
Best Collaboration: Jamie Foxx/T-Pain “Blame It”
Best Male Hip-Hop Artist: Lil’ Wayne
Best Female Hip-Hop Artist: M.I.A.
Best New Artist: Keri Hilson
Best Gospel Artist: Mary Mary
Video of the Year: Beyonce “Single Ladies”
Video Director of the Year: Benny Boom
Best Actor: Will Smith
Best Actress: Taraji Henson
Best Female Athlete: Serena Williams
Best Male Athlete: LeBron James
