DirecTV Airs Deadwood and OZ

America's leading satellite TV provider, DirecTV, made headlines in 2008 when it gained exclusive rights to broadcast Friday Night Lights (FNL) several months before the series aired on NBC. This transaction saved the program from cancellation, due to the infamous writers' strike. In 2009, the contract between DirecTV and HBO was renewed for two more seasons. The agreement ensures that Friday Night Lights will have the opportunity to end the story on its terms, without risk of early cancellation.

Unfortunately for HBO's Deadwood, DirecTV was unable to protect the series from termination. Although DirecTV's 101 Channel was not around to save Deadwood from a terrible fate, David Milch's western TV series will now be available on DirecTV's in-house channel.

The 101 Network is available exclusively to DirecTV customers. This satellite TV channel is included with all DirecTV packages, delivering commercial-free and unedited programming. Launched in 1999, the 101 Network now includes original programs such as Supreme Court of Comedy, Rock in a Hard Place, Havoc on The 101, Hometown Heroes, Smith, the Dan Patrick Show, as well as concerts by America's favorite artists.

On Sunday May 31st, DirecTV's 101 Network will take drama to the next level! Deadwood and OZ, award-winning HBO TV series, will be included on the 101 Channel's lineup. These critically acclaimed programs, formerly exclusively available to HBO subscribers, will be featured on the network’s Sunday night high definition lineup. Enjoy Deadwood and OZ - uncut and commercial free!

OZ gives viewers a peek inside the lives of Oswald Maximum Security Correctional Facility inmates and employees, as they encounter various trials and tribulations. Deadwood chronicles the lives of settlers who reside in Deadwood, South Dakota, an outlaw camp inundated with drama. The show follows the settlers as they march towards civilization. All six seasons of OZ, and all three seasons of Deadwood, will begin airing on DirecTV's 101 Network beginning May 31, 2009.
