DIRECTV Celebrity Beach Bowl, Big Success
To honor Super Bowl XLIII, DIRECTV hosted its 3rd Annual Celebrity Beach Bowl. The event was held on January 31, at Progress Energy Park in St. Petersburg, Florida. This year’s celebrity-filled DIRECTV Beach Bowl attracted an eclectic group of players, ranging from NFL icons to reality TV stars. Christian Slater, Blake Lively, Kevin Dillon, Penn Badgley, Joel and Benji Madden, Brody Jenner and the Kardashian sisters were among the ranks. Athletes who participated include Reggie Bush, Steve Young and Eli Manning.
DIRECTV’s Celebrity Beach Bowl is an annual competition held between two star-studded football teams. The first team is called Team NFL Sunday Ticket, and the second team is called Team Superfan. For this year’s event, Reggie Bush coached Team NFL Sunday Ticket with Steve Young as team quarterback. Eli Manning coached Team Superfan, with Warren Moon as team quarterback.
The competition unfolded before an audience of more than 6,000 people, and was aired exclusively on DIRECTV- The 101 Network. DIRECTV provided free tickets on a first-come, first-serve basis. Progress Energy Park was at full capacity, with upwards of 1,500 fans being turned away due to the event’s popularity.
A live Pre-Game Show was broadcast before the competition, and it featured appearances by James Brown, Phil Simms and Warren Sapp. Jenn Brown from Inside the NFL and Chris Myers from Fox Sports Network were also featured on this exclusive broadcast. Following the game, Celebrity Beach Bowl participants and spectators were treated to a performance by hip-hop legend LL Cool J, sponsored by DIRECTV.
This year’s big game, between dueling forces the Pittsburg Steelers and the Arizona Cardinals, wasn’t the only heated competition. DIRECTV’s 3rd Annual Celebrity Beach Bowl put Progress Energy Park to good use, be sure to tune in to next year’s rematch!
