DirecTV Offers Deadwood and OZ

El Segundo-based DirecTV announced plans to include HBO’s Deadwood and OZ on The 101 Network’s Sunday night high definition (HD) programming lineup. Beginning May 31, these two action-filled, award-winning dramas will air commercial free, and uncut – compliments of DirecTV!

Deadwood takes place during the 1870s in Deadwood, South Dakota. The series follows the lives of settlers within the camp, charting the community as it grows into a town. Sol Star, Wyatt Earp, Seth Bullock, E. B. Farnum, Wild Bill Hickok, Charlie Utter, Calamity Jane, George Hearst, and Al Swearengen are among the historical figures depicted. Deadwood, an HBO original series, aired for three complete seasons.

“We are committed to bringing the highest quality shows to our subscribers and these are two of the most riveting dramas ever made for television,” stated Patty Ishimoto, Vice President and General Manager of DIRECTV’s The 101 Network. “When pay TV shows like these move to other networks they are usually extremely edited versions, but DIRECTV customers will get to enjoy these incredible shows uncut, commercial-free and in HD.”

OZ, another HBO original series, is the nickname for Oswald State Correctional Facility – a fictional level four prison located in Emerald City – the setting for the show. OZ features an impressive ensemble cast including Rita Moreno, Harold Perrineau Jr., John Lurie, Eamonn Walker, Ernie Hudson, Terry Kinney, Betty Buckley, Christopher Meloni, and Kathryn Erbe. Master P, Method Man, Treach, and LL Cool J are among the celebrities to have guest-starred on OZ.

OZ is narrated by Augustus Hill, a wheelchair-confined convicted murderer and former drug dealer. This drama takes viewers inside Emerald City, cellblock level four, as correctional officers and prison inmates fight for survival among battling factions and raging acts of vengeance.
