DirecTV Releases iPhone Application

On March 30, DirecTV officially released its DVR Scheduler iPhone application, available free from the Apple App Store. With this easy-to-use application, DirecTV subscribers can schedule DVR recordings remotely. With a simple touch of the DirecTV icon, iPhone and iPod Touch users can control DVR recordings, regardless of location.

"The iPhone app will take the DIRECTV's DVR Scheduler experience to an entirely new level with its incredible ease of use, amazing search function, and great looking graphics," stated Eric Shanks, Executive Vice President of Entertainment for DIRECTV. "This app will more than meet the expectations of iPhone and iPod touch users. It really is the perfect marriage of two revolutionary technologies."

Building upon the existing m.directv.com mobile scheduler, this new application is intuitive and utilizes a rich graphic interface. This easy-to-use application is innovative, using a Multi-Touch interface and an advanced search function that allows users to browse through DirecTV’s entire programming guide with ease. Users can browse according to channel, or date and time. For added convenience, the application employs a keyword search option, allowing the customer to search for programs according to description, actor, or title. Recordings can be scheduled up to two weeks in advance.

Viewers have access to detailed program information, including duration, airdate, and description. Hit shows will exhibit an interactive graphic, providing the user with images of the cast. DirecTV subscribers can customize DVR settings, and record with ease.

DirecTV is an industry leader in providing remote DVR scheduling technology. DirecTV subscribers have had access to this free service, available on many cell phones and computers, since early 2008. Approximately 5 million recordings have been scheduled to date. The next generation DirecTV application will provide video on demand (VOD) content ratings, the streaming of program trailers, search and remote record functions.
