What internet speed do I need for DIRECTV?
We recommend the following speed plans depending on the internet services available in your area. Most homes in the United States have access to at least two of these. Call 1-800-580-5494 today to find internet packages near you and order them with DIRECTV.
- Fiber. With the fastest speeds and lowest lag rates on the market, fiber nearly eliminates buffering and still leaves enough bandwidth for others to work, socialize, and game at the same time. Any fiber plan works, but choose a faster plan the more people/devices use your internet.
- 5G. Also a faster internet technology, 5G home internet usually provides enough speed for streaming and other activities at the starting plan. Consider upgrading to the next plan if you frequently use multiple devices.
- Cable. Cable speeds run the gamut from 100 Mbps to about 1.5 Gbps. Middle tiers are best for streaming, but choose faster speeds the more devices you add to your network.
- Copper internet (DSL). Choose the fastest speed available. You may need to stream DIRECTV at a lower resolution to leave room for other users on your network.
- Satellite internet. Satellite isn’t recommended for streaming DIRECTV. Video uses so much data that you’ll quickly exceed your soft data cap, and your speeds will drop dramatically.
